Have you ever installed a computer program or video game on your PC and then ran it just to encounter an error message that had something to do with updating computer drivers? If so, then you are not alone.
When you buy a computer with an Operating system pre-loaded on it (Window XP or Vista for example), it comes automatically programmed with hardware drivers. Drivers are relatively small files created by hardware manufacturers that are used by the Operating System to enable communication between the hardware and software on your computer. After a some time, PC hardware manufactures make new drivers to fix bugs or programming issues that were found in the previous version.
Most of the time these drivers are uploaded on the manufacturers’ websites for manual downloading and installation. Sometimes, however, the drivers are very hard to find on the internet. This is where Google and Yahoo come in. But before you try these search engines, you can try Microsoft’s own driver database on the net. You can get to it by opening:
Control panel–then double-click System–click on the Hardware tab–and then click on Device Manager. Choose your device by clicking the box icon behind it. Right-click your desired hardware device and click Update Driver. An option to connect to the internet to search for drivers should be right there. When checked, and the other options are configured to your preference, click next and you are good to go. If the updates are successful, your programs should work fine. However, sometimes the Microsoft database does not have the latest drivers, and search engines become the last resort for the average computer user.
It doesn’t have to end here, however. Some people update their computer drivers in a completely different way. They use a piece of software that scans the computer for outdated drivers and automatically updates them from the company’s online database. This is a quick and easy way of updating drivers to their latest versions. It certainly beats all that search engine hassle.
You have to watch out though; there are several counterfeit types of this software. They claim that they will scan your computer and update your drivers, but what they really do is try to steal your personal information. You must avoid these sites at all costs. It is possible to tell by the way these programs are advertised. If they are pushing information at you in a popup ad or on a questionable website, it is very likely that the product being advertised would do your computer more harm than good. So it is best to use your better judgement when considering those products.
However, you do have some applications that are legitimate and completely safe to use. Driver Robot and Driver Checker are legitimate programs that make updating drivers a walk in the park. Immediately after you install one of these applications, you can have your computer updated in minutes! I’m personally using Driver Checker now and all my drivers are currently up to date and are functioning optimally. My computer is a lot faster and all my applications are functioning properly. So you see, it is possible to update all your drivers with one program!
If you want your computer to be faster with properly functioning applications, I recommend you look up those two programs mentioned above. They are very effective, legitimate programs that get the job done!
